Google Increases Price of Google One Subscription in Nigeria

Nigerians woke up to a surprise from Google as the tech giant announced an imminent price hike for its Google One subscription service. The company notified users that starting March 28, 2025, the monthly subscription fee would increase from N1,200 to N1,900.

In a message to its subscribers, Google stated, “Price will automatically increase to N1,900/month on 28 Mar 2025 for your Google One subscription. Cancel at any time in Google Play.”

Google One, a cloud storage service, offers users expanded storage across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos, along with other perks. While the company did not explicitly provide reasons for the price adjustment, industry analysts speculate that factors such as currency fluctuations and operational costs may have played a role.

Subscribers who do not opt out before the deadline will see the new charges reflected automatically in their billing cycle. Many users have expressed concerns over the rising costs of digital services, especially as economic challenges persist in the country.

As consumers weigh their options, some are exploring alternative cloud storage solutions, while others are hopeful that Google might introduce new benefits to justify the higher cost. The move follows a trend of tech firms adjusting their pricing structures globally, often citing inflation and market conditions as key drivers.

Whether this price hike will affect Google One’s subscriber base in Nigeria remains to be seen, but for now, many users are re-evaluating their cloud storage needs in light of the increased costs.
